Dan O’Byrne (P.Eng, MBA, ICD.D), CEO

Dan has over 33 years of diverse experience in the international and North American oil industry. He has participated in major projects in Canada, the United Kingdom (North Sea), the Middle East, West Africa, Australia and other countries. Dan served as CEO of Spyglass Resources Corp. from mid-2014 through late 2015. Prior to that, he was a Founder, Director and President of Charger Energy Corp. starting in mid-2010. Until 2010, he was Executive Vice President, Operations and Chief Operating Officer for Provident Energy Ltd. where he was responsible for Provident's oil & gas divisions and midstream operations. His previous positions have included numerous executive and management positions with Nexen Inc., and Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd.

Dan is a former director of the Petroleum Technology Research Center and a past chair of the Canadian Oil Sands Network for Research and Development. He was a governor of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), and is one of the Society of Petroleum Engineers' published authors. He has served as a director for a number of public oil and gas companies as well as several charitable and not for profit organizations.

Kevin Brown (ARC Financial) Chairman

Kevin is responsible for the overall strategy of the firm, including oversight of the investment decision-making process and investor relations. Kevin is the Chairman of ARC's Investment and Governance committees and is a member of ARC's Executive committee. He currently represents ARC on the boards of KANATA Energy Group Ltd., Primavera Resources Corp. and Seven Generations Energy Ltd. Kevin joined ARC when it was founded in early 1989, accumulating over 20 years of energy related finance, investment research, corporate strategy and direct investment experience. Kevin was head of ARC's investment research business from 1993 to 2001, co-head of ARC's corporate advisory business from 1996 to 1998, and President and CEO of ARC’s publicly traded, closed-ended STRATEGIC Energy Fund formed in 1998 and successfully wound-up in 2001. Prior to joining ARC, he worked for the Canadian Energy Research Institute where he was extensively involved in the economic analysis of global and North American energy markets. Kevin’s education includes an M.A. in Economics and a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta. He is former Chair of the United Way Special Gifts Advisory Committee and former Chair of the United Way of Calgary's Major Donor Committee.

Jeff Prentice (ARC Financial, ICD.D)

Jeff is focused on the monitoring and exit of ARC's existing investments and the structuring and execution of new investment opportunities in the exploration and production industry. His responsibilities also include working closely with ARC's portfolio companies on corporate strategy, risk management, strategy execution and financial matters. Jeff currently represents ARC on the board of Primavera Resources Corp., and as a board observer on Tangle Creek Energy Ltd. Jeff joined ARC in 2008, with 7 years of capital markets and project finance experience in the energy sector, working for a global investment bank. His education includes a B. Comm. in Finance from the University of Alberta. 

Evan Hazell, P. Eng

Evan has been involved in the global oil and gas industry for over 30 years, initially as a petroleum engineer and then as an investment banker. At present, he serves as a Director of Kaisen Energy Corp, as well as non-profit and community organizations Opera America, Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and Calgary YMCA. From 1998 to 2011, Mr. Hazell acted as a managing director at several financial institutions including HSBC Global Investment Bank and RBC Capital Markets. Mr. Hazell holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Queen's University, a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Calgary, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan, and is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Alberta. He resides in Calgary.

J. Michael Gatens

Mike was Chief Executive Officer of Unconventional Gas Resources Canada Operating, Inc. from February 2007 through early 2017. Mr. Gatens served as an Advisor and Chairman of Quicksilver Resources Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Quicksilver Resources Inc. since January 2006 and September 1997 respectively. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Quicksilver Resources Canada Inc. Mr. Gatens served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Quicksilver. He co-founded Quicksilver in September 1997. He served as Vice President of the Eastern Division in Pittsburgh of S.A. Holditch & Associates, Inc. He has been a Director at Petroglobe Inc. since August 24, 2006. He served as a Director of Unbridled Energy Corporation since October 24, 2006. He served as a Director of Eastern Division in Pittsburgh of S.A. Holditch & Associates, Inc. He is Liaison with the Coal Association of Canada and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. He is Chairman of the Canadian Society for Unconventional Gas. He served on the Board of the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council (PTTC) from 1994 to 2003. He was named a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in 2000 and served on the SPE International Board from 1995 to 1997 and has served on numerous SPE Boards and Committees. Mr. Gatens is also on the Board of Alberta Theatre Projects and was a recipient of the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005. Mr. Gatens received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University.
